Peaceful Fortress 10x17x10

Peaceful Fortress (inside view)

While these sculptures do reference the vessel, unlike many of my past works, the insides are an integral part of the experience. In many ways they compliment and contradict the outside. The work challenges the existence of a difference between the two and is meant to create a dialogue.

Some of these pieces are diptychs that occupy the same space but relate, and are necessary to one another, much the way we are stronger because of our personal relationships to people and the world. The way nature is more profound when you see the mountain against the sky for example. Its all about complimentary parts of the whole and the internal, external and negative spaces around objects that create even more synergy and beauty.

Autumn 24x62

Autumn is a wall piece that was completed in 2009. It was included in a 2 person show at Chelsea Eye gallery and was recently juried into Amaco's 2010 catalog to promote their underglaze products. I have been regularly making Ceramic Wall pieces since 2003 and particularly love this combination of sculpture and painting. My first wall piece was exhibited in a National Show in 2003 juried by Michael Sherrill at Baltimore Clayworks

In addition to working in clay I have been doing a lot of works on paper over the last few years. This one is a combination of gouache, collage, colored pencils and pastel. It was included in a show this year called "Contemporary Women Artists of Washington Heights" at the NoMAA Gallery in NYC.
